Vernon’s interview

Getting off!!!! Jodie yelled at the $1 van driver. The fare for the van had increased to $2 but everyone still called the vans the $1 van. The van driver dangerously cut the car off in the right lane off to allow her to get off. The car pissed off swerved into the left lane and angrily honked the horn and cursed at the van driver as he drove by. Jodie hated taking the van because of the way the drivers drove the van. She still rode the vans because she enjoyed how fast she got to her destination. At this time of day the bus stopped at every stop and she would have never gotten down the street in 6 min if she had taken the bus. She quickly got out of the van and began reading the street signs. Vernon lived near South rd. It was a dangerous area. It was full of prostitution and drug dealers. There were also a lot of fights. She had heard about them at the park or during recess at school when she was younger. Her phone vibrated she had a text from Vernon. Good morning dear are you almost here? Yes she replied I am turning the corner now.

Vernon’s house was very welcoming. He had many photos of friends and family on the wall. He was also very neat. So my love tell me exactly what you need for school. Jodie loved how helpful he was being. It took about 10 min for her to describe her assignment to Vernon. Well Jodie my parents are dead. I don’t speak to many other of my family members. I never speak of my sisters death. She was beaten to death. She got into an argument at a very young age with some kids from our neighborhood. We had problems all through elementary and jr high with these people. We went to separate high schools. When we would see each other outside there was always some sort of altercation between us. At camp we fought like cats and dogs with these people. Camp is where most of the physical altercations began…..

Jodie sat down hard on her living room couch. She had been at Mr Vernons house for 3 hours documenting the atrocious story leading to Mr Vernons sisters death. He even made copies of photos for her to present to her class. She leaned her head back and closed her eyes. She did not know how she could present these graphic and profane details of Mr Vernon’s sisters death in front of a group of people. She had heard about hate crimes before such as Emmit Til, the African man that got assaulted with a plunger, and had seen a gay man die on an episode of six feet under. She did not look forward to her presentation.
